Heavy Mining Equipment (“HME”) Planning and Engineering Specialist


Reporting to the Director, HME, this position is responsible for advancing the corporate business plan objective of development and implementation of quality, sustainable mobile mining asset, maintenance management standards and systems. These standardized systems will be implemented across the group to support current and future mining operations to achieve world class safety, performance, and cost efficiency.

Experience in mining asset/maintenance management is desirable but not essential, we are looking for a dynamic, energetic professional who thrives on being challenged, working with a culturally diverse team to achieve excellence while developing and growing their career with an exciting Tier 1 mining company.


This position will be based at B2Gold Corporate Office in Vancouver, Canada with a flexible work arrangement option available.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HME management system standards and procedures;
  • Review, develop and implement standardized, group wide LCC (Life cycle cost), budget and LOM models;
  • Develop and implement annual and Life of Mine (LOM) plan workflow processes, procedures and reporting templates;
  • Lead and facilitate development of site specific LCC models with site-based experts for all primary and ancillary mining equipment;
  • Work with site-based management and Director, HME to develop detailed LOM fleet strategies for each project and assist projects to manage CAPEX forecasts;
  • Support systems development projects in standardizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), to include Pronto and Wenco software configuration and reporting;
  • Identify, coordinate technology and innovation projects with OEMs and suppliers; and
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, accounting, finance, economics or information systems;
  • Experience in financial structures, budget development, analysis & reporting;
  • Expert user in Microsoft products Excel, Project and Power BI (desirable);
  • Results-focused and committed to achieving department goals;
  • Professional approach to working with peers and corporate leaders;
  • Willing to challenge paradigms, mining culture and drive change;
  • Excellent communication and change management skills;
  • Passionate and committed to developing national workforce, able to effectively train and coach peers.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in the principles and application of asset life cycle management in an industrial environment;
  • Experience in ERP/CMMS configuration, structure development and implementation;
  • Additional education: asset-maintenance management, project or business management;
  • Software: Database development experience, reporting platform development particularly Power BI;
  • French language ability considered an asset

Job Demands/Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires frequent international travel 30-40% which may be on short notice;
  • Frequent overtime required outside of normal business hours to communicate with worldwide mining project and supplier time zones;
