Corporate - Mine Engineer (Vancouver)

The Company

B2Gold is a low-cost international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, a mine under construction in northern Canada and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland. B2Gold forecasts total consolidated gold production of between 860,000 and 940,000 ounces in 2024.

Position

Mine Engineer

Introduction

Reporting to the Manager, Projects, this position will be responsible for various mine planning, design, and project management activities in support of corporate goals and directives.  The position will include frequent interaction with site management and operations departments, as well as corporate geology, finance, and other departments. The position will initially focus on B2Gold’s underground mine operations in Canada, Mali, and Namibia.

The successful candidate will be a responsible and self-directed professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where there is frequent change. International and domestic travel will be required.

Location

This is a full-time position based at B2Gold Corporate Office in Vancouver, Canada with a flexible work arrangement option available.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Complete long and medium term mine production planning;
• Complete stope optimization and development design exercises;
• Lead underground mine design projects, and support other technical projects including but not limited to ventilation, dewatering, and equipment studies.
• Support annual and Life of Mine budgeting and cost modelling;
• Support and/or perform discrete projects as the need arises;
• Provide professional guidance and advice to B2Gold’s operations and projects;
• Review and report on the status and outlook of mining operations regularly and as needed;
• Ensure that mine designs and plans meet B2Gold and industry standard safety parameters.
• Manage data and information and monitor production performance metrics and indicators;
• Maintain communication with sites in relation to mining activities, including mining production personnel, department managers, and mine managers;
• Travel to current and future operations and projects of B2Gold as required;
• Participate in due diligence and assessment of mine projects related to acquisitions and mergers;
• Maintain current on industry best practice and international performance standards, and; 
• Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Requirements:  

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college;
• Professional Certification (P. Eng., P.E., or similar), or eligible in the near future;
• Minimum three years of experience at a mine operation in a similar role, underground experience preferred;
• Strong knowledge, expertise, and understanding of mine optimization, design, production planning, and site performance;
• Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project) and at least one mine design/planning system (Deswik, MineSite, Datamine, Surpac, Vulcan, etc.); The B2Gold Corporate team uses Deswik.
• Experience creating and maintaining mine budgets, cost models, and life of mine plans;
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with demonstrated experience in technical reporting writing and public presentations;
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment but also available to work independently with minimum supervision;
• Available to think strategically with a big-picture mindset;
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Experience working with and/or managing consultants and teams directly and remotely is an asset;
• Experience with challenging jurisdictions a strong asset.

Job Demands/Physical Requirements:

• This position is based out of our Vancouver head office on a full-time basis with frequent domestic and international travels required (~ 30% of the time) which may be in short notice.

B2Gold offers a competitive compensation package, including base salary commensurate with the candidate’s experience, knowledge and skill set, and a comprehensive benefit package for employees and their eligible dependents. The base salary range for this position is CAD $120,000.00 - 150,000.00 per annum, which is the anticipated pay at the time of hire but does not reflect similar future job opportunities. Details of the total compensation package will be shared during the interview process.
