Position
Senior Underground Geologist, Mali
Introduction
The principal function of the Senior Underground Geologist is to provide direction, mentoring and leadership to the underground mine geology section and to collaborate with all stakeholders in order to achieve the objectives of Fekola Underground.
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Fekola Underground Project Manager, this position will be an 8/4 fly in-fly out rotation, based at the B2Gold Mali Fekola mine.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all underground Geology activities are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with all Fekola HSE and legislative policies, procedures and practices and performance manage as required
- Monitor and provide feedback of the performance of Underground Mine Geology personnel
- Develop training and development plans for Geology team members
- Establish and maintain constructive and effective working relationships with B2Gold employees, Contractors and Consultants
- Diamond Drill Contractor
- Design and implementation of diamond drill program
- Face and wall mapping
- Structural geology models
- Resource model reconciliations
- Complete grade control modelling updates from drilling and sampling results
- Ensure up-to-date grade control and diamond drilling assay results are made available for short term (weekly to monthly) underground mine planning
- Complete, daily, weekly and monthly reporting as required
- Provide input to resource model updates as required
- Provide geological input during the design and implementation of underground stoping
- Implement a system to accurately record material movement from active underground mining areas to surface stockpiles
- Construct Underground Geology annual operating and capital budgets; and
- Other duties as set out by the Company.
Competencies and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or an equivalent;
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within an underground mining environment;
- Experience with managing underground diamond drilling programs;
- Proficient with Microsoft office products and mining software packages such as Leapfrog, Deswik and Micromine;
- Exposure to database management;
- Proficient in geostatistical modelling and analysis;
- Experience with workplace safety programs; and
- Possession of Code B drivers’ license.
